Darla J. Fink, MPA
Hi, I’m Darla Fink.
I am proud to be a candidate for Ward 5 Reno City Council.
I’m a retired professional with a University of Nevada Reno Master’s degree in Public Administration. For those of you unfamiliar with a MPA, it's a professional graduate degree in public administration similar to a Master's of Business Administration, but with an emphasis on the issues of governance, like budgeting, policy implementation and impact.
This is relevant because:
I believe our City’s rapid growth has in many instances been at Ward 5 residents’ expense. We’ve all experienced the increased traffic in our neighborhoods and on our freeways, both 1-80 and 395, which although these are the state’s responsibility, it is the result of development in the community. Growth is necessary but development needs to be considered with an eye toward impact on existing neighborhoods and residents.
The investments made by taxpayers need to be put in use immediately.
Our first responders and fire stations should be fully staffed and I’ll do my best to advocate for necessary public services being funded and deployed.
Our neighborhood streets need to be brought up to a standard we can be proud of and the repeated auto burglaries along with other crimes, need to be addressed in a way that all of us here in Ward 5 feel safe.
I’m a long time supporter and participant in our areas largest art and economic event - Burning Man.
I’ve always advocated for people, animals and the environment. Growth cannot be sustainable without careful consideration to impact on climate, an essential issue that must be dealt with by city planners and I intend to advocate for the environment.
Please check out the events listed on this site and stay posted on social media for more about why I am the right candidate to represent you in Ward 5. If you have questions or ideas #ThinkFink2020 and together we can improve our community.
Why You Should Vote
Honesty & Integrity I believe in transparency in government. No one should have to guess on how much of the information received from their elected officials is true. If I don't have an answer to your question or a resolution for your issue, I'll do the research and get back to you. All of the information you receive from me will be based on the most current information available to me.
American Values We can all agree on a set of democratic values or principles such as autonomy, cooperation, shared decision-making, and a sense of community. My values reflect those of the citizenry of Ward 5. I will always do my best to represent my constituency based on their feedback, their needs, and best interests.
Responsible Growth Growth is necessary, but not at the expense of the needs of existing residents and businesses. Responsive government relies on citizen involvement and accountable representation.
